Moving to or living in Hoedspruit: long-term rentals, schools, healthcare, estates and resident services - the local guide for residents and relocators.

The short answer
Hoedspruit is a small Lowveld town with the practical infrastructure of a much bigger place: a Mediclinic hospital, schools, the wildlife estates of Raptors View and Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate, a working farming community, and the daily services that come with a permanent population. Long-term rentals are best searched through local estate agents.
Living in Hoedspruit
Hoedspruit is both a safari town and a working residents town. A permanent community of farmers, conservationists, lodge staff, retirees and remote-working professionals lives here year-round, supported by infrastructure that a town this size has no business having.
Where residents live
Three broad options shape Hoedspruit life:
- Wildlife estates - Raptors View, Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate, Kapama and similar gated estates with game and walking trails. Suit families who want security plus the bush at the doorstep.
- Town - houses and townhouses close to shops, schools and the hospital. Most convenient day-to-day.
- Smallholdings - small farms and bushveld plots outside town. More privacy, more driving.
Schools, healthcare & services
Hoedspruit has primary and secondary schools, a Mediclinic hospital, vets, dentists, pharmacies and the daily services you would expect in a small Lowveld town. The full resident services directory - vets, plumbers, electricians, builders, attorneys, accountants, estate agents - is browsable by category on the site.
Long-term rentals & property
For long-term rentals and property sales, work through one of the established local estate agents listed in the directory. Listings move quickly and a lot of local stock never makes it onto the national portals.
Community life
The community is small enough that everyone shows up at the daily farmers market, the school braais and the conservation fundraisers. That is the feature, not the bug.
