We all get a bit ‘gatvol’ sometimes – and in South Africa we have a lot of reasons to get gatvol! In the bush we like to stress less, and we therefore do things a little bit different than the rest. There are no fences here for instance -and the famous Maru Djembe Leopard roams around. We also have Snakes, Scorpions and Spiders - which is part of the small five. The big five can be spotted in the surrounding areas. In camp the Zebra’s, Sables, Giraffes, Impala, Kudus, Buffalos, Hyenas and warthogs will pay you a visit. If you are a nature lover, adventurer and a bit of a risk taker, then this is for you. If your preference is soft sheets and you worry about your WIFI connection, then maybe this is not for you. Bushveld tranquillity and breaking free from the rat race is what it is all about. If you love the sounds of the bush, you will love the Maru Djembe camping experience. This is bush camping at its purest.

Deep in the heart of the Kruger National Park, in the most exquisite topography, lies a small satellite camp. Named ‘Balule’ after the Tsonga word for the Olifants River, this camp is one of the best places for guests to experience nature first hand. Situated more or less in the centre of the Park, just south of Olifants Camp, Balule lies close to the mighty Olifants River. With only the most basic of facilities and no electricity, a low fence is the only barrier that separates you from the wilderness, resulting in a true back to basics experience. It is this unique wilderness feel of the camp that makes it a firm favourite with backpackers, the caravanning community and other visitors who want to get away from it all.

Situated 27km from Hoedspruit on the Guernsey road next to Klaserie dam our resort is an ideal break-away for a magnificent bushveld experience. Located centrally you are 40km from the Kruger National Park and a mere 10 minutes drive to some of the most well known big five lodges. Should you require the need for some real African game drives or Sunset drive all will be arranged at the office for an additional charge. We offer an experience for the whole family with specimen angling swimming pool and restaurant. Small boats and canoes are welcome for those of you who would like to roam the waters of the dam. You should not be surprised if you get an uninvited guest for lunch as our local wildlife roams the resort. We supply you with the option of staying in one of our famous fully fitted tented camps or if you require the comfort of your home our chalets would be the ideal option. Camping or caravan sites along the banks of the dam are also a popular option.

Maroela is a small camp situated on the banks of the Timbavati River, on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park, approximately 2km east of Orpen Rest Camp. This camp is one of only two camps in the Park that exclusively caters for guests with caravans and for campers. There are no other pre-erected accommodation structures in this camp. Close to the fence, visitors can indulge in watching a variety of animals that visit a small watering hole. There is also a rustic viewing platform overlooking the Timbavati River.
